March provided a nice mix of lingering winter birds and early migrants. Seawatching and spending time in a couple of islands were garnished with the arrival of a mega Moussier’s redstart.

A friends meeting in l’Albufera in the onset of winter resulted in good numbers of ducks and waders. Short-eared owl, black storks, several goldcrests and a cracking sociable lapwing were highlights of the day.

I finally managed to spot all nine owl species in Helsinki after two years: long-eared, short-eared, tawny, Ural, great grey, boreal, Eurasian pygmy owl, Eurasian eagle-owl and northern hawk-owl

Kongsfjordfjellet in early June provides incredible landscapes and wonderful Arctic species: horned lark, long-tailed jaeger, red-throated pipit, Lapland longspur, long-tailed duck, red-necked phalaropes and ruffs.
