Rainforest Discovery Center in Sepilok holds a large patch of lowland dipterocarp forest, home to many Borneo specialties. Orangutans and many other species call this vast tropical woodland home.
Today marks one year since this website was launched. A story of serendipity, with great people and fantastic birding experiences at Sepilok Forest Edge in Borneo, celebrates bird diversity at its finest.
What started as a joke ended up as a quest. Through living between Finland and Spain and travelling across Africa and Asia, I managed to find 1,000 bird species in 2024.
On a quest during a trip through Sabah (Malaysia), we contacted seven of the eight hornbills of Borneo: oriental pied, black, rhinoceros, bushy-crested, wreathed, wrinkled, and the mythical helmeted hornbill.
